Adventure
Whether you're looking for adrenalin-pumped excitement or something more sedate, you can find it in our Region.
Set your goal and plan your success... adventures are bountiful across the region. If you're looking for a real adrenaline rush or like to set your sights to the sky, when you visit the Tamworth region there are several options.
At the Manilla Sky Ranch you can learn to paraglide or take a tandem parasail. The school also teachers how to fly trikes, ultralights and gyros under the supervision of Australia's most qualified instructors.
Those who would like a total bush adventure experience can attend the five day Leconfield Jackaroo and Jillaroo School about 50km east of Tamworth. The school is operated by the family who have lived on the property for four generations. Since 1997 the school has taught horse riding, cattle and sheep mustering, roping and lasooing, fencing and yard building, calf wrestling, whip cracking, sheep shearing, horse sports and horse shoeing.
Climbing into a saddle is also possible at a number of locations including riding schools and properties which operate farmstays. Tamworth Visitor information Centre has more information.
There are also several four wheel drive and trail bike tracks throughout the area around state forests, including the Barraba Track which leads to the summit of Mount Kaputar and the drive to Sheba Dams near Hanging Rock in the Nundle State Forest. Drivers and riders are reminded to stay on the defined tracks and are cautioned to drive carefully because forest roads are unsealed, can be narrow and winding in places and may become slippery in the wet.
Or get back to nature and go bushwalking (extreme or subdued), bird watching, fossicking or stalk out the native flora and fauna.
Whatever your rush, whenever you venture outdoors make the most of the experience by being prepared for the forecasted weather conditions. Be sure to wear the most suitable type of clothing for the activity and the expected weather.
Want extreme action with a little controlled danger thrown in? Play paintball at Kootingal, on the opposite side of the highway heading out of town on Betts Lane. There are up to seven field's available covering a variety of terrain which contributes to the challenge and fun. Sessions run for about four hours and cost includes marker hire, paint, masks, coveralls and barbecue plus a drink. Only those aged 16 years and older are permitted to play. Players wear camouflage coveralls and "hunt" and "shoot" each other with paint filled "bullets".
Depending on your thrill seeking level, there are many options available to suit your adventurous desires throughout the region.
