Water Sports
Despite its inland location, water sports are a popular form of recreation for residents and visitors in the Tamworth region. When the weather is fine, there is nothing better than skiing, fishing or swimming the days away.
Apart from the Peel, Manilla, Namoi and other prominent rivers, the region boasts a number of man-made lakes which are ideal for boating, swimming waterskiing and sailing. Camping is permitted at some locations while others have nearby caravan parks and other accommodation.

Chaffy Dam, on the Peel River is located on road to Nundle. There is a viewing platform that provides beautiful panoramic views of the dam. Swimming, sailing, boating and fishing are enjoyed by all on the outstretched waters.
Sheba Dam Reserve, in the Great Dividing Range at an altitude of 1150m above sea level, is another popular picnic, swimming and fishing spot. Located in between Hanging Rock and Nundle, the reserve has just been upgraded and provides the perfect setting for a spring adventure.
Glenriddle Reserve is 15km South East of the Beautiful village of Barraba on Crow Mountain Road. It has the reputation of being the best location for boating and fishing in the Barraba region. The Reserve is at positioned at the Northern end of Split Rock, and offers a relaxing bed of water to kick back and enjoy the warmer months.
