Kootingal
Just 20 kilometres from Tamworth is the township of Kootingal; a popular residential area for people who work in Tamworth and a rich alluvial agricultural region for lucerne, fruit and vegetables being the major products.
Kootingal also has a number of heritage buildings; the most famous is Moonbi House. Each April Kootingal sees nothing but the colour orange with celebrations for the annual Pumpkin Festival. Many stalls and exhibit's attend the festival showcasing the regions best pumpkins and other produce, and there are also various competitions for the best, biggest and ugliest pumpkins.
There is always plenty to do and see with the community markets held at Kootingal Sportsground on the first Sunday of March, June, September and December from 8am till noon.
On the opposite side of the highway heading out of town is Betts Lane where you'll find Tamworth paintball. There are up to seven field's available covering a variety of terrain which contributes to the challenge and fun. Sessions run for about four hours and cost includes marker hire, paint, masks, coveralls and barbecue plus a drink. Only those aged 16 years and older are permitted to play.
