Before arriving in Manilla, you will pass through the village of Attunga. Based on the town’s door-step is the Attunga State Forest is 874hectares of forest with picnic spots and facilities offering many walking trails allowing you to enjoy the bush surrounds or camp overnight.
 
‘Feel the Freedom’ in Australia’s aero-sports capital situated only 30 minutes drive west of Tamworth; Manilla is a charming country town with a big reputation.
 
As one of the best paragliding, sky sailing and hang-gliding sites, Mount Borah at Manilla annually hosts Australian and International Paragliding and Hang-gliding competitions. In fact, Manilla and Mount Borah play host the world’s best at the World Paragliding Championships.
 
Manilla is a popular fishing spot, large catches of Cod, Catfish and Golden Perch (yellow belly) are regularly reported to locals, try your luck at Lake Keepit or in both the Manilla and Namoi Rivers. One very popular fishing spot is to be found right in the centre of town just below the Manilla Weir, but shhh don’t tell everyone!
 
Manilla also provides visitors with the opportunity to get up close to one of Australia’s favourite mammals; the platypus. In the 1920’s scientist Harry Burrell developed a breeding program to preserve and protect our fury friend and he later took his work to the USA. The work of Harry Burrell is on show at the Manilla Historical Museum and Visitor Information Centre.
 
Oakhampton is a working property as well as a unique B&B and Farmstay where you can pat a kangaroo, play bush golf and see a sheep being shorn under the stars of Big Sky Country. In Manilla, go further north to visit Manilla Grove for olives, honey and numerous other delicious food products.
 
Warrabah National Park is one of the State’s few inland river parks and is set on the western slopes of Australia’s Great Divide. The park lies on the rugged Nandewar Range, part of a belt of granite that extends 200 kilometres from Bendemeer north to the Queensland border. The pools and rapids are excellent for swimming, fishing and canoeing plus bushwalking and there is always plenty of room for visitors.
 
A short drive away from the township of Manilla are two major water reservoirs; Split Rock Dam and Lake Keepit. Both dams offer excellent fishing and are great recreational areas for water sports. Spend a weekend out at the dam with camping facilities available at both locations.
 
With excellent thermals, the sky’s not the limit in Manilla!
